An effortlessly collaborative process between client, architect and designer – the project outcome to create a beautiful, petite home within a small envelope. The core project driver – sustainability in a ‘green’ and lifestyle sense. The glass ‘treehouse’ allows for natural ventilation and cooling, large volume of water storage which is used as a main source of internal and external water supply, grey water reticulation, energy efficient tap ware, sanitary ware and appliances, LED and compact fluorescents lighting, reconstituted and recycled timber finishes, natural oil finishes and low Voc paints. The small footprint is deceptive, as the spatial volume opens up to the outdoor area, extending the internal living area beyond the glass facade. The master bedroom floats within this glass void, yet is deceptively private as are the other sleeping zones that sit within the existing heritage fronted cottage. Beautiful and subtle, this extension is virtually undetectable from the street frontage, but unfolds as soon as you step inside.
