The design intent of La Buvette was to create a little piece of France in the city of Adelaide. Owner Dom hails from France and together with Australian born wife Hayley, they came to Enoki with the brief to create an authentic French wine bar and charcuterie. The budget was tight and the building historically beautiful, although run down. The existing space required extensive works to bring it up to code and operation.
A driving factor in the design process was to create a street presence, to attract clientele down Gresham Lane, leading off hectic Hindley Street. Internally, the transportation to a little piece of France continues through bare concrete floors, pockets of bar and banquette seating, wall paneling and layered artworks, exposed original stonework, bare wooden rafters, traditionally carved wooden bar with formed steel top, simple mirrored backed spirit display, the charcuterie and little French kitchen with glass detailing, the rich navy tiled rear wall encasing a stripped back old safe door, the French subway hallway that leads to the amenities.
