The clients for this project are long established publicans in the historic Adelaide hills town of Hahndorf. With The Haus, they wanted to create an environment in which people would enjoy the very best of local produce and wine within an inviting, multipurpose surrounding. Giving reference to Hahndorf's unique past in a contemporary context, Enoki worked with Anni Luur Fox who created six stories depicting the life, food and culture of the area's first settlers. These stories were then converted into illustrations which are used throughout the space to tell a visual story and to assist in creating the different zones within the establishment.
The look and feel is relaxed, yet high end and quite unique. This is realized by using the existing core elements of the site - rustic red brick, timber ceilings and trusses - and offsetting them with new elements of dark timber walls, counter paneling, concrete bench tops and hearths, tessellated tiles, charcoal carpet and 25 of Enoki's Cumulus pendants which float above the diners. The dispersed black stenciled graphics create a strong yet subtle detail, allowing the patrons themselves to provide the colour.
